Monthly Mini-Workshop
Tuesday, August 4, 7:00 PM
Genealogy research often begins with names, dates, records, and documents, but the deeper goal is preservation, remembrance, and storytelling. In this engaging and beginner-friendly workshop, participants will explore how accessible AI tools can help transform family history research into meaningful narratives that future generations can actually connect with and understand. Together, we will examine how discoveries trapped in binders, spreadsheets, PDFs, and research notes can be brought to life through storytelling, audio, timelines, and creative interpretation while still maintaining historical integrity and respect for original sources.
Participants will receive an introduction to practical AI tools, including ChatGPT, NotebookLM, and Storybook, a storytelling-focused Gem within Google Gemini. The workshop will include a simple introduction to prompt engineering, demonstrations of how AI can assist with organizing and narrating genealogy research, and a discussion of digital literacy and ethical AI use, including fact verification, distinguishing fact from interpretation, privacy considerations, and the importance of maintaining human judgment in family storytelling. No technical background is required.
