SUMMARY:ZOOM: "Rochambeau's March Across Connecticut" with Bruce Clouette
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 18\,  2026 – 1:00 P.M. EDT\nThe Connecticut Society of Genealogists\, Inc. presents\n“Rochambeau’s March Across Connecticut” with Bruce Clouette\n\nRegistration Information: \nThis event will take place virtually on Zoom. The event is FREE\, but registration is required. \nPlease click on the Zoom link below to register.\nRegister in advance for this meeting:\n \n https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/rl455fMITneKC49d56Rqbw \n\n\n\n\n\nIn the summer of 1781\, four regiments of French infantry\, along with hundreds of mounted troops\, marched through Connecticut on their way to joining up with the American army camped near the Hudson River.  It was a spectacle never before seen by local citizens: soldiers marching in formation\, musicians\, artillery\, and hundreds of supply wagons.  The French made a major contribution to America’s victory at Yorktown\, ending the American Revolution.  This presentation will describe the French march through Connecticut\, how the route and locations of the French camps were reconstructed using old maps and documents\, and what was learned through both historical research and archaeological testing. \nBio: BRUCE CLOUETTE has been active in the fields of Connecticut history and historic preservation for almost fifty years.  He has a Ph.D. in History from UConn and was part of a team of researchers who completed Connecticut’s Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Road Project in 2001. \n\n\n\n\n\nConnecticut Society of Genealogists Media Release Policy\nRepresentatives of CSG may take photographs and/or videos at events for publicity purposes only. These photographs and/or videos are for use by CSG in publications or other media material produced for the purpose of society promotion including but not limited to: brochures\, invitations\, books\, newspapers\, magazines\, television\, websites\, and various social media channels.\nBy attending this CSG event you grant permission and consent to the use of any photography and/or video you may appear in.
