Join us as we discuss the industry\, the people\, and the place that made hatting synonymous with Danbury\, CT. \nBio:  \nBrigid Guertin has worked for 26  years to promote an appreciation of Danbury’s past as a key tool to providing context to understand Danbury’s present\, and help our Danbury community plan for a better future. Working with outstanding volunteers\, staff\, and two museum boards\, Brigid and her team of history enthusiasts have expanded the physical\, online\, and programmatic reach of the Danbury Museum from 5000 persons impacted to 25\,000 plus persons impacted yearly by the Danbury Museum –  both on and off campus.  Additionally\, the Danbury Museum’s online reach has expanded to include 125\,000 interactions monthly across vibrant social media platforms\, used for communication and educational purposes. \nA museum professional since 1999\, Brigid has an MA in Museum Studies from The George Washington University\, and an undergraduate BA degree in History from Marymount College in Tarrytown\, NY.  Married to husband Gary for 21 years and with three teenage boys\, (ages 19\, 17 and 15) Brigid is an active member of the Danbury community. Brigid\, is a sustaining member of the Danbury Garden Club and she is a corporator of Ives Bank of Danbury\, a member of the FCI Danbury Community Outreach committee\, a board member of the Friends of the Danbury Museum\, was a decade long Junior Achievement volunteer\, is a member of St. Joseph Church in Danbury\, was an appointed member of the Danbury Board of Education\, was a member of the Planning of Conservation and Development Committee for the City of Danbury (POCD committee)\, and currently sits on numerous city based committees as part of her work with the Danbury Museum and as Danbury’s City Historian. \n\n\n\n\n\nConnecticut Society of Genealogists Media Release Policy\nRepresentatives of CSG may take photographs and/or videos at events for publicity purposes only. Kate will talk about when distant matches can be useful in confirming Colonial ancestors…and when they can be misleading.\nShe will share a case study of an ancestor who told an unlikely story – and DNA led her to Connecticut and nearby areas. \nBio:  \nKate Penney Howard is a genetic genealogist and speaker specializing in endogamy and breaking down challenging research barriers with DNA. She brings decades of experience in family research and hundreds of successfully solved genetic genealogy cases. \nKnown for her compassionate approach\, Kate helps clients uncover ancestral mysteries while providing them with more complete family medical histories and a stronger sense of identity. Her presentations captivate audiences by seamlessly blending historical context\, technical guidance\, and well-placed humor that keeps listeners engaged throughout. \nKate discovered her passion for teaching during her cancer journey\, finding fulfillment in sharing knowledge with fellow genealogists. Are you unable to trace your ancestry further back in Irish records without knowing the county or townland? This is a common frustration for many researchers with Irish heritage. Professional genealogist Kerri Tannenbaum will present several case studies to illustrate strategies and provide tips and techniques that may help you find your ancestors’ location in Ireland. \nBio: Kerri Tannenbaum is a professional genealogist and researcher who works with people looking to learn more about their family history. She specializes in New York\, Connecticut\, Pennsylvania\, and Irish research. Kerri is a graduate of Boston University’s Certificate Program in Genealogical Research and the ProGen Peer Study Groups. She serves as contributing editor of the Irish Family History Forum newsletter\, a recipient of many awards from the National Genealogical Society. She also serves as a guest lecturer and research consultant for several genealogy societies. Kerri founded her company Family Dot Connector LLC in 2018 and has served hundreds of clients since then.
