History
Brief: |
Between 1675 and 1680, people from Massachusetts came by way of Farmington and Hartford to Waterbury to settle the valley of the Naugatuck River. Settlement spread to this section between 1687 and 1700 when it was known as South (of Waterbury) Farms. In May 1722, it became the Society of Salem. Town privileges were granted in May 1844 and the boundary included parts of Bethany, Oxford and Waterbury. Naugatuck was chartered as a borough in 1893. Town Birth records begin 1847. Marriage records begin 1844. Death records begin 1852. Barbour collection records cover 1844-1853. |
