History Brief:
The Parish of Amity, including what is now Bethany, was incorporated in the Town of New Haven 1739. Religious services began in Bethany in 1750, at the "Schoolhouse", and in 1762, upon a petition from the inhabitants of the Parish of Amity, the Parish of Bethany was established. In May 1832 it was separated from Woodbridge to form the town of Bethany. Subsequently, portions of the Town were incorporated into Beacon Falls and Naugatuck. Town vital records begin 1852. Barbour collection records cover 1832-53.
