History
Brief: |
Rodger Ludlow secured a commission to begin a plantation at Pequonnock and brought a party of settlers from Windsor in 1639. They settled, however, at neighboring Uncoway instead. After some controversy the Court confirmed the settlement on 16 January 1639. The name, Uncoway, somehow gave way to the name, Fairfield. In May 1667 the Court granted the town of Fairfield liberty to run its boundaries north as far as Stratford. Town vital records begin 1851. Barbour collection records cover 1639-1850.
