History Brief:
This town was originally part of Windsor. In May 1696 the Court authorized a church so that settlers did not have to cross to the west side of the CT River to worship. In 1768, East Windsor was separated from Windsor and became a town. Town Birth records begin 1768. Marriage records begin 1761. Death records begin 1769. Barbour collection records cover 1768-1860.

Description:John H. Bissell was granted rights and established the first ferry to cross the Connecticut River, connecting Windsor and the North Parish (East Windsor). It was in continuous operation until 1917.
