History Brief:
The inhabitants of Stratford, Connecticut split over religious differences which resulted in some people moving to this new territory. The Legislature of October 1667 granted them liberty to purchase land from the Potatuke Indians for a village or Plantation in a section of called Pomperaug. In 1673, it was incorporated as the town of Woodbury. Town vital records begin 1679. Barbour collection records cover 1674-1850.
