History
Brief: |
This town was settled about 1734 as the southern part of New Milford. The first bridge across the Housatonic River was completed here in July 1737. The area was called Bridgewater in 1803. It was incorporated as Bridgewater Parish in 1856. Town vital records begin 1856.
