History Brief:
At a Particular Court held at Fairfield on 10 October 1648, Thomas Newton, Henry Gray and John Green were given liberty to settle at Machamux. The name Machamux gave way to Bankside. Parish privileges were granted in October 1714. The town of Westport was incorporated in 1835 with land taken from Fairfield, Norwalk and Westport. Town vital records begin 1835. Barbour collection records cover 1835 to 1850.
