Brief: The origin of this town was closely associated with that of Coventry. Both were part of the land bequeathed by Joshua Uncas, Sachem of the Mohegans, to men in Hartford. The town of Coventry was set off in October 1711. In May 1715, the General Court established conditions for the town of Tolland to be set off. Tolland was named a full town by the Act of 1722. Town vital records begin 1715. Barbour collection records cover 1750-1850.
